Knitting

January Socks

If nothing else, serving as the hostess for Knitted Wit‘s 2019 HerStory knitalong pretty much guarantees that I knit a pair of socks each month. Only two weeks into the new year, I’ve already got a pair off my needles and on my feet!

This year’s HerStory collection features women in the arts, and January’s colourway is named Goddess, after Beyoncé (the colourway draws its inspiration from Beyoncé’s pregnancy photoshoot and I’m in love with the saturated goldenrod and speckled floral segments in the yarn). Sometimes it’s hard to know how these skeins will look once they’re knit up — I was afraid an intricate pattern would just detract from the colours so I opted for the plainest of sock styles.

These are shorter than most of the socks I’ve knit. Up until recently, I tried my best to use every last inch of yarn from the skein (I didn’t want to waste any of it!) but I finally came to terms with the fact that I don’t actually like socks with such long legs. Once I finished the heel flaps on these, I knit about 2-¼” before beginning the cuffs and they feel perfect. No more long legs for me!

Now I have the rest of the month to make a little progress on my other projects: a pair of socks for Todd, my Harry Potter Blanket, and the Find Your Fade shawl.
